Eating less on a GLP-1 medicine can mean drinking less too. Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea can tip you into dehydration.

The Wegovy label warns about kidney injury from fluid loss. We ranked five zero-sugar electrolyte mixes on sodium, potassium and price.

"When I started, all I had was Reta and electrolytes in my fridge." That line from r/Retatrutide got 69 replies, and electrolytes came up more than 130 times in the GLP-1 threads we track. People reach for them to fight fatigue, headaches and the stomach side effects of these medicines.

What the label and the advisory say

  • Kidney injury from fluid loss. The Wegovy prescribing information lists acute kidney injury due to volume depletion as a warning, and advises monitoring kidney function in patients reporting severe stomach side effects. The patient information says: "It is important for you to drink fluids to help reduce your chance of dehydration."
  • How often stomach side effects happen. The 2025 joint nutrition advisory reports nausea in 25 to 44%, diarrhea in 19 to 30% and vomiting in 8 to 24% of people in GLP-1 trials, most often when starting or increasing the medicine. It notes post-market reports of kidney problems "possibly due to dehydration from nausea and vomiting," and says people at risk should get advice on preventing dehydration (Mozaffarian et al., 2025).

We found no trial testing electrolyte drinks in people on GLP-1 medicines. We did not find reliable interaction data in the sources reviewed. That does not mean there are no interactions.

Reading an electrolyte label

  • Sodium per serving is the main number. Mixes range from about 200 mg to 1,000 mg.
  • Potassium matters most if you have kidney disease or take certain blood pressure medicines.
  • Sugar. "Zero sugar" mixes use sweeteners such as stevia, allulose or sucralose. Regular versions can carry 10 g or more of sugar.
  • Extras. Vitamins, caffeine or herbs add nothing for hydration. Check before buying.

Common questions

What is the best electrolyte drink on Ozempic or another GLP-1?

The mix I can link is DripDrop Zero Sugar. Liquid I.V. Sugar-Free has 530 mg of sodium and 380 mg of potassium, and I do not have a confirmed Amazon button for it. Ask your prescriber first if you limit salt or potassium.

Do I need electrolytes on a GLP-1?

Not everyone does. The Wegovy label stresses drinking fluids to lower the chance of dehydration, especially with nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Ask your prescriber whether an electrolyte mix makes sense for you.

Can electrolytes help nausea on Ozempic?

We found no trial showing that. If nausea, vomiting or diarrhea does not go away, tell your prescriber right away, as the Wegovy patient information advises.

Is LMNT too much sodium?

LMNT has 1,000 mg of sodium per stick, a large share of the 2,300 mg daily limit in US dietary guidelines. It may suit heavy sweaters. People with high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease should ask first.

Are sugar-free electrolytes better on a GLP-1?

Zero-sugar mixes avoid the 10 g or more of sugar in many regular sports drinks. The 2025 joint advisory advises avoiding sugar-sweetened beverages.

Can I drink electrolytes every day on semaglutide?

That depends on your health and medicines. Daily sodium and potassium add up, so ask your prescriber.

If I could only buy one

If I could only link one, it's DripDrop Zero Lemon Lime. Liquid I.V. Sugar-Free would be my potassium pick if the Amazon slot were confirmed.

Research information, not medical advice. Nothing on this page recommends starting, stopping or changing any medicine. Electrolyte drinks add sodium and potassium, which some people need to limit. Talk to your prescriber first, and call them right away about vomiting or diarrhea that does not stop.

Sources, methodology, and changes

Methodology. Literature search on 2026-10-10: the 2025 joint GLP-1 nutrition advisory and the Wegovy prescribing information and patient information. On the same day we compared eight zero-sugar electrolyte mixes on Amazon US and brand sites, and searched the NSF Certified for Sport list. We did not test any product. Reader quotes come from Reddit threads collected for our reader research.
